PIANC is a professional association of experts who have joined forces to provide specialist knowledge and advice on how to ensure the cost-effective, reliable and sustainable development of waterborne transport infrastructure. Founded in 1885, PIANC continues to be a leading partner for public authorities and the private sector in the planning, design, development and maintenance of ports, waterways and coastal areas.
As a non-political and non-profit organisation, PIANC brings together leading experts from many countries in technical, economic and environmental matters related to waterborne transport infrastructure. Its members include governmental institutions, companies and interested individuals.
PIANC has members in 65 countries, including 38 countries represented through governmental institutions, two international inland navigation commissions, approximately 450 companies and organisations — including private companies, ports, research institutions and business associations — and nearly 2,000 individual members. Active communication between PIANC headquarters and its members is supported by 25 national sections.
